Washington Child Care Training Requirements:

In accordance with WAC 110-300-0107, all providers in the state of Washington are required to complete 10 hours of professional development annually. Professional development hours are monitored by calendar year (January – December). Out of the required annual training, 5 hours may be carried over from one calendar year to the next. At this time, this carry-over is not captured in MERIT. To complete this option, please contact your licensor.

The Continuing Education Proposal (CEP) application allows you to request annual in-service training hours for a learning opportunity not connected to state-approved training. You may complete a CEP application for online or self-paced training. Lillio Academy would qualify for this training. CEP application instructions can be found here.

You are eligible to submit your learning experience if it meets the following criteria:

  • You completed the learning experience within the last 12 months.

  • The learning experience covers topics in the Washington State Core Competencies for early care and education or school-age professionals.

  • You applied what you learned to your work.

  • The learning experience was at least one hour long.

Training topics are in alignment with the Washington State Core Competencies:

  • Child growth and development

  • Curriculum and learning environment

  • Ongoing measurement of child progress

  • Family and community partnerships

  • Health, safety, and nutrition

  • Interactions

  • Program planning and development

  • Professional development and leadership

Workforce Registry users employed at programs participating in Early Achievers may contribute to their center's Early Achievers Rating through Professional Development Points. The Workforce Registry must verify training before the rating process is considered. Education that is submitted but not verified at the time of rating will not count.
