Alberta & Lillio Academy
Can I use Lillio Academy for PD hours in Alberta?
Yes! Lillio Academy is approved by the Alberta Government Child Care and Youth Services Division. Lillio Academy helps educators pursue ongoing professional development in the field of education. It does not count towards earning a certified level 1,2, or 3 in Alberta.
Sign up for Lillio Academy to complete your personal, professional development hours at your convenience! You can work at your own pace from wherever you want. Once you complete a course, you can download your certificate!
Alberta Child Care Training Requirements:
Early Childhood Educators in Alberta are required to follow the conduct requirements outlined in the Certification Guide for Early Childhood Educators. There are three levels of certification educators can hold in Alberta.
To be certified for Level 1, you must have completed one of the following:
Alberta Child Care Orientation Course
CCS 3110, 3120, 3130, 3140 and 3150 (offered through Career and Technology Studies at Alberta high schools)
45-hour (3 credits) post-secondary coursework related to child development
Family Child Care Training Program through an approved Alberta Family Day Home agency registered with the Alberta Family Child Care Association
ELCC coursework with outcomes that focus on diversity and Indigenous learnings, as approved by Children’s Services
To be certified for Level 2, you must have completed the following:
1-year early learning and child care certificate program offered by an Alberta public college or university, or an approved educational equivalency from a college or university.
To be certified for Level 3, you must have completed the following:
2-year early learning and child care diploma program offered by an Alberta public college or university, or an approved educational equivalency from a college or university.
Ongoing professional development is not required but is highly recommended by the AECEA.
