Celebrating B Corp Month
Did you know that HiMama is a certified B Corporation? This means that we have been officially recognized for our commitment to running a business that helps to make the world a better place. We all know how important the ages of 0-5 are to a child’s development, and we are committed to providing early childhood educators with the tools and resources they need to provide a loving, educational and supportive environment for children and families.
March is a very special month because it is B Corp Month! In this post, we’ll go over what being a B Corp means and why this cause is so important.
What is a B Corp?
Why B Corp?
At HiMama we lead with social purpose. Our goal is to empower early childhood educators with affordable tools that enable them to improve developmental outcomes for the children they work with while educating parents about the importance of their work. To do this, we actively consider our impact on the communities and industries we serve. Being a Certified B Corporation is a big accomplishment that truly recognizes our goals.
As a B Corp it isn’t just about what we’ve done, but about where we want to go, all while driving our why. All of the challenges that the world faces cannot be overcome without us doing our part.
In March 2018, HiMama became a Certified B Corporation, which means that we meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability as part of a global movement of people using business as a force for good. There are a total of 4,756 Certified B Corporations in 155 industries, 394,465 workers, and 78 countries with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business. The B stands for B the Change, inspired by Gandhi’s famous invocation that we must be the change that we seek in the world. When we think about the world that we want today’s youngest children to grow and thrive in, we want to do our part to make that world a better place.
What inspires us?
How are we evaluated as a Certified B Corp?
We have accountability as a certified B Corporation. We are assessed on our working conditions, our environmental performance, how we conduct business, and how we support local communities, among many other things.
Businesses require a score of 80 points or above to achieve B Corp certification. We’re very honored to have achieved an overall B Impact score of 100.6, up from 81.9 in 2018. We will continue to evolve how our practices impact our employees, the early childhood education community, the environment, and our customers. You can view our impact assessment here.
