Teacher Quiz: Are You At Risk of Burning Out?

Being an early childhood educator can be one of the most rewarding yet demanding careers for a person to have. While you get to make a big impact in the lives of young children, it comes at the cost of long, busy days for little pay and often a lack of appreciation for how important your job really is.

These factors can all contribute to one of the biggest problems that the child care world faces: burnout.

The World Health Organization defines burnout as “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.”

With no downtime like a traditional office job has, “chronic workplace stress” is unavoidable for ECEs; however, what can be controlled is how we manage this stress.

Self-care is the most important thing for ECEs to prioritize in order to survive — and enjoy — their careers. When you spend your days caring for others, it can be easy to forget about yourself. But make no mistake: if you don’t care for yourself, you won’t be able to present the best version of yourself to fully care for your students to the best of your ability.

To help you on your self-care journey, we’ve created this quiz to help you better identify the signs of burnout and how you measure up.
