Kindergarten Readiness Checklist

While every child develops at their own pace, there are some things to consider when preparing for the formal K-12 school environment. Many kindergarten teachers will format their instruction to the individual child’s needs. This kindergarten readiness checklist can help you identify which support each child needs and can help provide caregiver assessments for school readiness.

For example, some of the things that children may need to achieve specific early learning milestones like gross motor skills, fine motor skills, using crayons, riding a tricycle, knowing their own name, scribble work, social skills, recognizing basic shapes, specific language skills like letter sounds and recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters, math skills, two-step directions, learning nursery rhymes, rhyming words, emotional skills and emotional development, and more.

No single factor or indicator signifies that your child is all the way ready to start kindergarten, but there are things you can do with your students to prepare them for what is to come in kindergarten when they do start. Remember to keep it fun!
