Opening a new childcare center is a very exciting, time-consuming, stressful, and rewarding process. Ensure you are on the right track to providing high-quality childcare with this free printable new center opening checklist. Check off each item on the to-list as you work through them to stay organized! It’s essential that as childcare providers, you’re not missing anything as you open your new child care facility.
While you may have some things taken care of, there’s always something that could sneak up on you. Whether it’s child care licensing requirements for your business, background checks for your caregiver staff, ratios for staff members vs. children by age group, first aid kits, or material for early learning child development, you need to have everything covered. For instance, when looking at child ratios, also consider age-appropriate equipment like cribs, cots, immunization by age, local child care licensing regulations that may just be statewide and not nationwide, and other things. There’s not just licencing requirements to think about either; also consider the set-up (i.e.: where is the play area? Are there electrical outlets to worry about and protect children from?) and equipment (i.e.: fire extinguishers, emergency preparedness kits, hand washing station equipment, and cleaning supplies).
Also consider things like what you may need for field trips and outdoor play, items that may be carried with the children after school, and typical childcare business tools and concerns like liability insurance, enrollment checklists, technical assistance for any technology, and extra staffing where necessary.
